Bank accounts of 21 directors of 4 factories frozen
10 May, 2013
The Bangladesh Bank on Thursday ordered freezing the bank accounts of 21 directors of four garment units housed in the collapsed Rana Plaza at Savar.
The BB on the day issued a circular to all banks in line with a directive of the High Court passed on May 5.
The BB circular said that money could only be withdrawn from the accounts of the owners to pay salaries to the injured or families of the workers killed in the tragedy.
Other than that, no money can be withdrawn from the bank accounts of the directors of New Wave Bottoms, Phantom Apparels, Phantom-TAC and Ether Textile, said the circular.
The BB circular, which carried the names of the 21 directors, also asked the banks to submit a report to this end within May 14.
The banks were also asked to point out the outstanding balance of the accounts with their compliance report.
Earlier on April 30, the BB had ordered freezing the bank accounts of Sohel Rana and managing directors of four garment units housed in the Rana Plaza.
Rana Plaza, a nine-storey building located at Savar bus stand, collapsed on April 24. The death toll in the disaster reached 957 till Thursday evening with about 2400 others injured.
