Poet Mohammad Nurul Huda – acclaimed as ‘Jatisattar Kobi’ or 'the poet of national identity' in English – will celebrate his 64th birthday on Monday.
The poet’s 64th birthday celebration panel has organised a programme at the Public Library’s Seminar Room in the afternoon. The programmes will include recitations from his poetry and discussions.
Former Director General of Bangla Academy Prof Md Harun-ur Rashid will chair the programme which will also be attended by renowned poet and writer Syed Shamsul Haque, Prof Serajul Islam Chowdhury, poets Asad Chowdhury, Rafiq Azad, Habibullah Siraji, Kamal Chowdhury, Abu Hasan Shahriar and Asad Mannan, among others.
The poets will recite their own poems at Nurul Huda’s birthday celebrations.
Huda was born at Pokkhali village in Chittagong’s Cox's Bazar on Sept 30, 1949.
He is also a leading writer with sizeable contribution in many branches of literature. President of the Bangladesh Writers’ Club, Huda is widely known as an essayist, literary critic, translator, folklorist and Intellectual Public Right-specialist for copyright and traditional cultural expressions.

Huda is also a Fellow at Bangla Academy and member of American Folklore Society, International Society for Folk Narrative, Bangladesh Asiatic Society and many other international organisations.
The number of Huda's published titles (book-length) exceeds 100, of which 50 are poetry, many essays and literary criticisms, three novels, one biography, five translations and others that he has compiled and edited.
Speaking about his poems, the poet said, “People’s pains and sorrows, imperfection, riches or beauty of mind have transcended national space and time to etch themselves deep in my experiment with writings. It is this quest for aesthetic and human beauty that drives my writing in theses times.”
“I’m walking alone, but keeping up with others too. I’m certainly with the one who hears my call, but I’m not detached from the one who hasn’t heard it. In fact, this attachment makes my writings free.”
His noteworthy books include Amra Tamate Jati, Jonmojati, Moinopahar, Byangkumar, Chander Buro Chander Buri, Chhotoder Begum Rokeya, Chotoder Michael Madhusudan Dutt, Chhotoder Rabindra Jiboni, Chotoder Ruposhi Banglar Kobi Jibanananda Das, Dekha Hole Eka Hoye Jai, Rajar Poshak, Rabindra Prokriti O Onanya, Sartre O Onyanya Prosongo, Satbhai Chompa, Ami Jodi Jolodas Tumi Jolodashi, Shukla Shakuntala, Ami Ekti Khas Prajapatra Chai, Shobhajatra Dravidar Proti, Matir Niche Kath Koyla, Hajar Kobita, Baro Bochhorer Golpo and Telapoka.
