Implement dream of Tarique: Khaleda

Opposition leader and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia Tuesday said if the dream of Tarique Rahman is realised, the country will be benefited through faster progress.
“If the dream of Tarique Rahman is realised, the country and the party will be benefited. The country also would go ahead if the thinking and spirit of Tarique are implemented,” she said, praising her self-exiled elder son as an honest and able leader of the party.
The former prime minister made the remark while addressing a discussion titled ‘The future of nationalist politics and Tarique Rahman: perspective Bangladesh’ organized by Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) on the occasion of BNP senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman’s birthday at the Institution of Engineers in the capital in the afternoon.
The student wing of the party arranged a daylong programme to celebrate the 48th birth anniversary of Tarique Rahman, the elder son of the BNP Chairperson, Khaleda Zia, and late president Ziaur Rahman.
Denying Tarique’s involvement in graft, Khaleda Zia said he was not involved in any corruption at all. “He performed his duty very honestly while he has no wealth.”
Claiming as false the allegation of corruption against Tarique Rahman, the former Prime Minister said Awami League had been conspiring against him for long.
She alleged that the Fakhruddin-Moyeen Uddin-led caretaker government wanted to kill him but, he survived by the grace of Allah.
Khaleda urges all to pray for Tarique Rahman so that he can return home recovering from his illness, to lead the nationalist force and build a beautiful Bangladesh for the new generation.
Earlier, Khaleda Zia awarded prizes to winners of drawing competition of children while she also cut a 48 –pound cake to celebrate her elder son’s birth day.
BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Rofiqul Islam Mia, former Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University Prof Emaz Uddin Ahmed, Prof Moniruzzaman Mia and Bar council vice president Khondoker Mahbub Hossain were among others present at the programme while JCD president Abdul Qader Bhuiyan Jewel was in the chair.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) celebrated the 48th birth anniversary of the party senior vice chairman and elder son of the BNP chairperson with festivity.
BNP and its front and associate organizations arranged separate programmes to observe the day across the country, including the capital city.
On the occasion, BNP acting secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir cut a 48-pound cake at 00:01am Tuesday at the party central office.
He also cut cakes of Swechchasebak Dal, Chhatra Dal and Tanti Dal at the same time at the same venue as the leaders and activists of the party chanted slogans such as : Happy Birthday to Tarique Rahman.
BNP leaders Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Mohamamd Shajahan, Fazlul Haque Milon, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie, Asaduzzaman Ripon, Khairul Kobir Khokon, Abdus Salam, Habib un Nabi Khan Sohel, Chhatra Dal leaders Abdul Qader Bhuiyan Jewel and Habibur Rashid Habib were among others present.
Tarique Rahman was born on November 20 in 1964.
He is now staying in London for treatment. He was arrested during the last caretaker government in 2007. He was accused in a dozen of graft cases.
The BNP leader was released on bail granted by the Supreme Court and went to London for treatment along with his wife Dr Zubaida Rahman.
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has chalked out an eight-day programme to celebrate the birth anniversary of the scion of the Zia family.
As part of their week-long programme, they organized drawing competition for children, photography and book exhibition on Tarique Rahman and voluntary blood-donation programme at the Institution of Engineers Institute since morning on the day.
BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain inaugurated the function in the morning while JCD president and general secretary were among others present.
BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia reached the venue at around 4pm and observed the function.
The engineers institution premises and its surrounding area were decorated.
The JCD earlier on Sunday brought out a colourful joy rally marking the birth anniversary of Tarique Rahman in the capital. BNP acting secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir inaugurated the procession in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office.
