JU VC confined for 4th day

The agitating teachers of Jahangirnagar University under the banner of "General Teachers' Forum" on Saturday showed black flags to Vice-Chancellor Prof Anwar Hossain, pressing for his resignation on alleged ground of irregularities.
At least 150 teachers hoisted black flags in front of the university administration building shouting slogan "Shame on VC''. VC Prof Anwar Hossain remained confined in his office for the fourth consecutive day.
In the meantime, a representative team of "General Teachers' Forum" held a meeting with Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid.
Earlier, Kamrul Ahsan of the Forum at a press briefing said, most teachers including deans, senate and syndicate members, provosts and chairmen of departments are demanding VC's resignation. Held at the conference room of Registrar building, besides the convener of the platform Prof Hanif Ali, Abul Kashem Majumdar, Prof Shamsul Alam Selim, Prof Abul Hossain, Prof Mozammel Haque were also present, among others.
Kamrul Ahsan said, all the 6 syndicate members, 5 in 6 faculty deans, 29 in 33 senate members, 12 in 15 hall provosts and 25 in 34 department chairmen have expressed dissatisfaction on the VC and want his immediate resignation.
Meanwhile, Prof Anwar Hossain at a press briefing said, he will not resign because he believes that the teachers' demands are unjust'. During his fourth day's confinement in his office, the VC made this comment against his earlier comment that if the President wants he will resign from the position. "The teachers' demand is illogical and unjust. I will not resign to meet this kind of demand", he said.
The VC has already sought the intervention of President Abdul Hamid, who is also the university chancellor for a solution and had pledged to step down if President told him to do so.
Meanwhile, Progotishil Chhatra Jote brought out a procession on the campus demanding an end to the impasse and resume academic activities in the university as soon as possible. After the procession, a rally was held in front of Amar Ekushey premises.
On the other hand, at least 40 students under the banner of General Students brought out a silent procession in the campus demanding the continuation of day to day academic and administrative activities of the university.
