Students of three departments at Jahangirnagar University on Saturday confined the vice-chancellor for hours to press their demands of adequate classrooms and library facilities.
Students of the international relations, archaeology and, journalism and media studies demonstrated in front of the VC office since the morning.
They locked its gate at about 4:00pm for two hours until the university vice-chancellor, Anwar Hossain, assured them of fulfilling the demands as soon as possible.
Later, a syndicate meeting was held, with the VC in the chair.
The administration had recently asked the journalism department to shift to the old arts building from new arts building.
After the completion of the construction work of third floor of new arts building, the authorities would allocate new classroom for the journalism students, the authorities had said.
Journalism department chairman Lutfur Rahman said they were yet to get fixed classrooms,
which led them to hold classes at Teacher-Student Centre.
The journalism students continued their demonstration on Saturday as part of their pre-declared protest programme while students of international relations and archaeology departments joined demonstration, demanding adequate number of classrooms, seminar library and laboratory.
