World Health Day today
08 Apr, 2013
The World Health Day is being observed in the country as elsewhere across the world on Sunday with a highlight on this year’s theme ‘High Blood Pressure’.
The World Health Day is celebrated on April 7 to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. Each year a theme is selected for the World Health Day that highlights a priority area of public health concern in the world. The theme for 2013 is high blood pressure (hypertension), according to WHO.
The WHO has set four goals of the World Health Day 2013. These are greater awareness, healthy behaviours, improved detection, and enabling environments.
In Bangladesh, different organizations have chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day.
The programmes include an inaugural programme at Osmani Memorial auditorium, seminar, health education fair on high blood pressure, publication of special supplements, screening of documentary, musical programme and discussions.
Acting President Abdul Hamid Advocate and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina issued separate messages on the occasion.
