Dr Kamal calls for efforts to save democracy

The Gana Forum president, Kamal Hossain, on Thursday called for a united movement to protect democracy.
Addressing a discussion at Institute Engineers Bangladesh to mark the 20th founding anniversary of the party, Kamal said that the country was facing political crisis on the issue of the election-time government, under
which the next general elections would be held.
‘We want peaceful transfer of power through an acceptable national election and the election must be held under a nonpartisan government and an independent Election Commission,’ Kamal said.
He also called on the ruling and the opposition parties to initiate a dialogue to resolve the issue of the election time government.
He called on all the progressive and pro-liberation political parties to unite to wage a movement to resolve the political crisis of the country.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal faction president ASM Abdur Rob said that the national elections under the present government would not be acceptable.
The JSD was working on forming a third political force out of the influences of the two major political parties, the Awami League and the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Rob said.
Krishak Sramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddique urged the parties in the opposition camp to initiate a united movement to resolve the issue of the election-time government.
Nagraik Oikya convenor Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the country was facing serious political crisis as the issue of the election-time government was yet to be resolved
