Govt must shoulder responsibility of any chaos: Fakhrul

Renewing its call to the government to amend the constitution for restoring the caretaker government system, opposition BNP on Sunday warned that it will be held responsible for any confrontational situation if created due to its stubbornness.
"We still hope good sense will prevail upon the government and it'll restore the non-party caretaker government system by amending the constitution in the upcoming parliament session," said BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
"The government will have to shoulder the responsibility if a con whatever the government said the country's people think a free and fair national election is not possible unless it is held under a non-party caretaker government.
Reiterating her government's firm stance to hold the next election as per the Constitution, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday urged people not to be confused at the negative propaganda being carried out by a vested quarter.
"It's very much regretful that a strong propaganda is going on to confuse people, I'll urge people not to get confused. We want to run the country as per the Constitution and continue the democratic process," she said delivering her introductory speech at the AL's Advisory Council meeting at her official residence Ganobhaban.
Fakhrul said people in the elections to five city corporations extended their support to hold the election under a non-party administration. "We hope the government will show respect to public opinion."
He alleged the government by its adamant attitude has already pushed the country towards instability and uncertainty. The BNP leader said their ongoing movement for protecting democracy will reach its desired goal with the support of people.
