City people suffer as raining may continue
29 Aug, 2013
Stagnant rain water accumulated in different parts of the capital after downpour under the influence of an active monsoon is causing sufferings to the city dwellers.
The Dhaka met office said the intermittent raining under the influence of monsoon active over Bangladesh might continue till today and then it may decrease for the time being.
It also forecast that the country would continue to witness such intermittent raining until the rainy session ends.
‘Most parts of the country witnessed downpour over the last two or three days under the influence of an active monsoon,’ Sanaul Haque, a meteorologist of Dhaka met office, told New Age Wednesday evening.
He said the intensity of rain might start to subside from tomorrow.
The meteorologist said Dhaka witnessed a total of 4mm rain in the last 24 hours until 6:00pm on Wednesday.
Besides, different low-lying areas and even road stretches in the city went under water even after a little shower, triggering tailbacks even on the public holiday, Janmashtami, on Wednesday.
Vehicles remained stranded on the roads for hours while the traffic police had a hard time trying to tackle the tailback.
Roads and alleys being in a poor condition have only multiplied the sufferings of the people as many vehicles were damaged or they conked out after falling into potholes or ditches on the road, submerged with water.
Witnesses said the big potholes in the middle of the roads became traps and lurking danger as they went under rain water.
