City dwellers face severe traffic jam
04 Jul, 2015
The city dwellers are experiencing severe traffic gridlock on Saturday as the movement of people and vehicles have increased for shopping ahead of the Eid-ul-Fitr festival.
Reporters from spots say that traffic congestion has slowed the movement of vehicles in different city streets including Shantinagar-Malibag-Rampura, Shantinagar-Moghbazar-Banglamotor and Mogbazar-Mohakhali.
Passengers blamed construction work of flyover as one of the main reasons of nagging traffic congestion from Shantinagar to Rampura.
They also said that streets have become narrower as huge construction materials of the flyover have been kept piled up on the road.
Besides, unmarked stoppages of passenger buses are another cause of the jam.
On the weekly holiday, increased number of people, who are going for shopping for upcoming Eid, has also created extra pressure on roads, adjacent to shopping malls.
A passenger Asif Abrar told banglanews that he spent about two hours to reach Shantinagar from Rampura, which usually takes less than half-time even traffic jam remained.
Besides, long tailback was seen in Shahbagh-Karwanbazar-Farmgate-Bijoy Sarani road or Kazi Nazrul Islam Avanue, the main avenue of the city.
