ICC CEO gives a replica of ICC Trophy 1997 to BCB CEO
15 Aug, 2013
International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO David Richardson handed over a replica of the ICC Trophy won by Bangladesh in 1997 to Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Acting CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The original ICC Trophy is currently being preserved at the ICC offices in Dubai, UAE. Bangladesh secured qualification for the Cricket World Cup for the first time by virtue of finishing in the top three of the 1997 tournament. The performance and exposure in the 1999 ICC World Cup also contributed to the country eventually attaining Test status. Considering the significance of the ICC Trophy in the history of Bangladesh cricket, the BCB with the assistance of the ICC had the replica created in Dubai.
