Rangpur Riders reach BPL 5 final
11 Dec, 2017
Rangpur Riders will face Dhaka Dynamites in the final match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.
The Riders have achieved this milestone after beating Comilla Victorians by 36 -run in the second qualifier today.
West Indies batsman Johnson Charles hit 105 off 63 balls as Rangpur Riders on Monday beat Comilla Victorians by 36 runs in the Qualifier 2 to book a place in the final of Bangladesh Premier League 2017.
Mashrafe Bin Mortaza-led Rangpur will now face defending champions Dhaka Dynamites for the title tomorrow (Tuesday).
The Qualifier 2, scheduled to be played on Sunday, had to be stopped at the end of the seventh over on the day due to rain and Charles and Brendon McCullum built heavily on the previous day's 55 for 1.
Charles' innings featured nine fours and seven sixes while McCullum hit only a four but nine sixes in his 78-run knock that came in 46 balls and their 151-run partnership made sure the team did not lose track after opener Chris Gayle was out for only three runs on Sunday.
Chasing 194, Comilla openers Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das made a good start, but following the fall of the former on 54, they lost wickets every now and then.
Liton was the team's highest scorer with 39 off 28 while Tamim made 36 in 19 balls. Marlon Samuels and Jos Buttler added 27 and 26 respectively, but those were not enough to trouble the Rangpur bowlers.
Rubel Hossain was the most successful Rangpur bowler with three wickets while Isuru Udana and Ravi Bopara claimed two each.
Charles was adjudged the player-of-the-match for his match-winning century.
