Accused officials not yet arrested

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is yet to arrest the officials and executives of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Limited (BTCL) and the Ericsson Bangladesh Limited (EBL), who have allegedly embezzled about Tk 610 crore by obliterating international incoming call list.
The ACC has, however, taken several measures so that they cannot leave the country. Their cell and land phones are also under tracking, sources said.
ACC Commissioner Shahabuddin said, ACC has been working to arrest them.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday filed four cases against 22 people, including four top officials of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Company Limited (BTCL), on charge of swindling over Tk 610 crore by erasing international incoming call lists.
ACC Deputy Director SM Sahidur Rahman filed two cases and another Deputy Director Mahmud Hasan and Deputy Assistant Director Rafi M Najmus Sadat filed two others with city's Banani Police Station.
The accused include BTCL incumbent Managing Director SM Kalimullah and three former Managing Directors Dr Abu Syed Khan, Absar Alam and Kabiruzzaman. Engineer M Towfiq (ex-member-Maintenance and Operation); former General Managers Anwarul Mamun and AHM Bakhtiarul Alam, ex-Divisional Engineers Zahir Uddin M Babar, M Khurshed Hasan and Habibur Rahman Pramanik, Divisional Engineers Anwarul Hossin Masud and M Sajjad Hossain. Customer Operation Manager (Robi) Nazrul Islam and Service Engineer Mashrurul Hakim, among others.
