Famous folk singer Kalika Prasad dies in car accident

Indian famous folk singer and leader of Bengali folk band "Dohar" Kalika Prasad Bhattacharjee was killed in a car accident on Tuesday, in which five others were critically wounded after their vehicle fell on a ditch at Gurap in the Hoogly district of the country, police said.
The singer, at his mid 40s, was declared brought dead at a Burdwan hospital, police investigating the mishap said.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said she was shocked to learn about the mishap in which the singer died tragically.
The accident happened on the Durgapur Expressway at Gurap in Hooghly district while the singer was returning to Kolkata on a vehicle with five other members of Dohar.
The FIR said that their four-wheeler, which was hit by a truck from rear, fell into a roadside ditch injuring the singer fatally.
Bhattacharya, also acted on awarding winning Prasenjit starrer Jaatishwar (2014), Moner Manush (2010) and Bhuban Majhi (2017).
Known as Kalika Prasad, he founded Dohar band in 1999 and excelled in Bangla folk song troupes with all of their albums gaining immense popularity, thanks to their unique sound and extensive research into folk traditions that goes into their recordings.
The singer also collected more than 6,000 (six thousand) folk songs from different parts of India and Bangladesh and their versatility also covers music of north-eastern India.
