Shop owner hacked dead in Sylhet

A medicine shop owner was hacked to death by a trader over a trivial matter at Lalabazar in South Surma upazila of Sylhet district on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Azir Uddin, 55, son of Mabishur Ali, a resident of Tengra village in Bishwanath upazila, UNB reports.
Sub-inspector of South Surma Police Station Anjan Das said Azir , owner of Shahjalal Pharmacy at Lalabazar, had an altercation over a trifling matter with Riaz, another trader at the market and a resident of Bhoraut village, on Thursday evening.
Following this, Riaz and his supporters carried out an attack on Azir on Friday night when Azir was taking preparation to return home.
Riaz and his men beat up Azir with iron rod and hacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him severely injured.
Later, he was whisked off to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 12am.
As the news spread, neighbours of Azir and the residents of Tengra village blocked the Dhaka-Sylhet Highway and vandalised the business entities of Riaz.
On information, police rushed in and brought the situation under control, the SI added.
