Cop among 3 killed in Comilla road crash

Three members of a family including a police sergeant were killed when a private car, after a tyre of the vehicle burst, crashed into the railing of a bridge on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Batisha in Chouddagram upazila on Thursday. The deceased were identified as Nazrul Islam, 52, a sergeant of Brahmanbaria District Police, his wife Lovely, 35, and their minor daughter Nuzhat, 3.
Uttam Kumar, officer-in-charge of Chouddagram Police Station, said the accident took place around 8 am when a tyre of a private car carrying the police sergeant and his family burst and crashed into the railing of a bridge, leaving sergeant Nazrul and his daughter dead on the spot, and injuring Lovely.
Critically injured Lovely was rushed to Comilla Medical College Hospital where she died at about 10 am.
However, two sons and another daughter of the couple escaped unhurt during the incident.
The police sergeant and his family met the tragic incident while returning from his home village at Chhagalnaiya in Feni to his workplace in Brahmanbaria after a 3-day holiday on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.
