20 Aug, 2013
Police on Monday went into action against the agitating non-government primary school teachers when they started a journey towards the Prime Minister's Office after holding a sit-in-programme at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital, by charging batons, firing rubber bullets, lobbying tear gas shells and throwing hot waters.
A nurses' programme under the banner 'Diploma Nurses Association' was also
foiled by the police, as the programme was being held near the programme of the teachers.
Several primary school teachers including two female teachers were injured in the police action. 10 teachers were also arrested from the spot. The sit-in-programme of the teachers began at the venue in the morning, demanding appointment of them as teachers who passed in the examination from the former registered primary schools.
The teachers started journey towards the Prime Minister's Office in the afternoon to submit a memorandum in favour of their demand. But police intercepted them and went on action. About four thousand teachers joined the programme.
