If Tarique, Arafat not dishonest, who are?: Suranjit
26 Nov, 2012
Minister without portfolio Suranjit Sengupta on Wednesday 21 November ridiculed the claim of the leader of the opposition in the parliament, Khaleda Zia, that her son Tarique Rahman had never been involved in corruption and termed the claim as a big joke.
‘It is a big joke that Tarique Rahman and Arafat Rahman are honest. If her two sons are honest, then who are dishonest in the country?’
Suranjit said as he spoke at a discussion Bangabandhu Academy organised at the National Press Club.
Suranjit, who stepped down as railway minister amid corruption scam, said, ‘They are to be considered honest if honesty means being accused in money laundering cases and convicted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.’
The New Age published the report on the above joke on 22 November with a cartoon of Suranjit. Lets see two readers comment on Suranjit’s joke.
One Babu comment to Suranjit that “manek knows manek and roton knows roton.i am surprised at your presence in midea. you should shy man.”
Another Syed Neaz Ahmad made comment “It's what we learnt at school: Pot calling the kettle black! Hon'ble minister must be given a proper portfolio to use his talents.
On 8 Oct, 2012 in our media review we made headline on Suranjit Sen Gupta’s financial scandal. The headline was ‘Suranjit caught red-handed again.’
In the report we mentioned `Former Railway Minister Suranjit Sengupta's caught in red-handed again after nine months. It is Rtv who blew up the bomb by telecasting the interview of Whistleblower driver Azam Khan and the splinters of the bomb spreaded allover . . Azam Khan said the money tashed sack was going to Mr Gupta’s house. After breaking the news it has become again talk of the country. All newspapers published the item on Saturday with importance.
Appearing on the TV for the first time since the April 9 railwaygate scandal, whistleblower driver Azam Khan has said the Tk 74 lakh stashed in his car was being taken to the then railway minister Suranjit Sengupta's house.
“The money was being carried to Suranjit Sengupta's residence. But, I foiled the attempt. Money was taken [to Suranjit's house] several times before as well,” he said in an interview with Rtv aired first on Thursday night and throughout yesterday.
Azam, driver of Suranjit's ex-assistant personal secretary (APS) Omar Faruq Talukder, had been missing since the scandal surfaced.
Around 11:30pm on April 9, Azam drove Faruq's microbus into Pilkhana, and blew the whistle that there was illegal money in the vehicle.
This Suranjit made joke of Tarek and Koko’s corruption. Nation expected he will go retirement from politics after the incident and stop his mouth from criticizing others. But still he is making himself laughing stalk.
Koko's laundered money back :
The Anti-Corruption Commission says it has brought back around 2.04 million Singapore dollars laundered by BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s younger son Arafat Rahman Koko and his associate.
"A few minutes back, I came to know that the sum of money has been transferred to Sonali Bank's Ramna corporate branch from Singapore," ACC Chairman Ghulam Rahman around 5:00pm yesterday 22 November said.
The commission earlier had opened the Stolen Asset Recovery Account to receive the amount, he told reporters while leaving his office in the capital’s Segunbagicha.
ACC Deputy Director Abu Syeed on March 17, 2009 sued Koko and Saimon for laundering more than Tk 20 crore -- Singapore $28,84,603.15 and US $9,32,672.81.
The Daily Star made it lead item on Friday 23 November with a scandalous caricature of Opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia, His Elder son Tarek Rahman and yonger son Arafat Rahman Koko. The Daily Star wanted to made the issue from iota to titanic. But the public did not have it. Because They did not forgot the recent Hall Mark scandal, Padma Bridge scandal, Capital market scandal and other all out corruption in all government sectors. To the readers it is nothing but a iota against the titanic corruption of the present government. Readers found ill motive of the Daily Star about the excess treatment of the news and scandalous caricature. Readers termed the issue as a government propaganda to hide their Himalayan level corruption.
The Daily Star reader named ‘ONLOOKER’ made comment `The amount laundered by one past-day Koko is like chicken feed compared to tons of dollars now being digitally siphoned off by the present-day Kokos. Shouldn't ACC recover the money stolen by the ongoing Kokos: Taka 94,000 crore from the Stock Market, Taka 3,400 crore by Hall-Mark, Taka 10,000 crore by Destiny, millions of dollars on account of Quick Rental Power Stations and billions of dollars stolen from Bangladesh and stashed away in foreign bank accounts at the behest of our ‘Kings’ and ‘Queens’? (Friday, November 23, 2012 12:31 AM GMT+06:00) .
Reader `Truth Teller’ wrote “The money was transferred to a Sonali Bank branch. It will not be long that the money will disappear.” (Friday, November 23, 2012 01:07 AM GMT+06:00).
Nasir Tarafder wrote “Even if this is true (most likely faked by the government as this government is the champion of faking and misleading things and events), way far short of the current regime`s supersonic corruption, in fact a tip of the iceberg, of the level and amount corruption, what this government is doing. Thanks.” (Friday, November 23, 2012 02:02 AM GMT+06:00).
Emdad Hoque wrote on the Daily Star report “ Now we want to see how ACC recover looted Sahare Market money, Hall Mark money and Padma Bridge money which were looted by the Pro Govt Leaders and family members of PM (according to opposition leader). We also would like to see Daily Star publish similar Headline (like today) for those big robbers who has robbed thousand times more money than little robber Koko did. To me they all deserve punishment.” (Friday, November 23, 2012 11:19 AM GMT+06:00 ).
So far I Know The Daily Star authority edit and censor the comments. They do not publish the comment which is seriously against them. Nonetheless one can imagine the public view about the issue from the above mentioned some readers comment.
