The question of cultural individualism have been arisen in recently for the debate over the frequent transmission of some neighboring Bengali TV channels, which based on entirely entertainment. The main question on the debate is that, is these channels programs hampering our cultural values, or cultural individualism? The question is seems very easy and someone wants to try to answer that as YES/NO. But is the question really as easy as it treated? Obviously not, it needed to go into depth of it. One should go through the cultural history, and the essence of cultural individualism.
There are sometimes have to be claimed that our local artists are failing to provide the needed or qualified programs than Indian channels. Is that claims true? You shouldn’t answer with only one or two word, using simply yes or no. one should go to deeper to find the exact situation. What they provide us? You can’t generalize in only one sentence also!
The cultural individualism is that theory, when a nation follow that, then they keep their culture attract or use another culture. One nation does it for their own interest such as to resist mind division, to create self-reliant, or to help local artist rich, and to protect cultural declining. But this type of individualism is not much possible in the era of globalization, especially where a man, who has a personal computer or a smartphone with an internet connection has easy to access to every type of culture that is existing or existed in world. A man or woman has free access to that. That is not prohibited by any laws, that shouldn’t prohibited by any rules. But where is the problem that a developing country like us, who have to face many threat from commercial, social, cultural, economic, national, educational and to unite the whole country into one, have to think more differently.
It is told that, in this era of globalization one country do not capture another country’s territory. If ones desire to capture another country, then she make influence at first over the culture of a country. And you know that the culture is the full of a country. If the culture is telling you, go wright side then you will go wright side. And if it tell to go left then obviously follow that.
Is the demand against a special race?
It is the only vital question that this move whether against a special race or not? It shouldn’t against a race or a group of people, because the thing entertainment we cannot decided and imposed over others. It is can’t be imposed. For example, openly romance is prohibited in our conservative society but in reality we can see the condition is what. When the front door is closed then the back door will open. It sometimes have to be told that it against the wish of women because some recent incidents by which the questions was arose, related to them. This questions came from some prominent feminist. Then I would like to ask that, do you like to spend your times by enjoying serials and drama and spending your husband’s income, what type of women freedom is this? Obviously this question is not directly related to answer of this question, but a portion of solution has existed there.
In the 17th century we saw the mixture of local and Muslim culture, especially during the Husen Shahi reign. Shri Chaitanya and Alauddin Husen Shah was got much of these credit of mixture. As the other side of a coin, we could notice the mixture of some literature which were full of sexual abuses. From that cultural mixing our society could be came out but in recent years again our society is engaging much to these sexual abused literature. And these indian Bengali TV programs is bearing the torch of that literature through the multimedia version of it. I don’t object fully and I don’t denied the presence of these problems in absence of these channels. But the recent incidents and happenings are too much worse than any others times and in future it will be much more.
Probably, from our grandsons time, I mean after two generations (40 years is one generation) they wouldn’t able to know that, who is his father distinctively!
We are common public can’t decide what will be or should be. But we have some seniors, we are respecting them, and they should have been decided in favor of national and common interest.
