Dastardly attack on college principal

Recently, a university professor wrote a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. He commented that people shouldn't put too much weight on the recently released trends in SRA scores of the state's high school students. The professor went on to describe some of the unanswered questions about the nature and value of assessment. He mentioned that one of the problems with assessment was the ongoing disagreement on the very purpose of education.

A few days later, a scathing response was printed from a community member who questioned whether the University really wanted someone on their staff who didn't even know the purpose of education. Clearly, this person assumed that his definition of education was shared by all. What is the purpose of education? Do we find it in the definition of the word "education"—or is it something more?

Webster defines education as "the process of educating or teaching." Educate is further defined as "to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of…" Thus, from these definitions, we might assume that education means to develop the knowledge, skill, or character of students. But this definition offers little unless we further define words such as develop, knowledge, andcharacter.

What is knowledge? Many think of it as a body of information that exists "out there"—the results or products of human thought processes that have taken on a life of their own. In this view, Knowledge…with a capitol K…is the sum total of facts, truths, laws, principles, and ideas that man has produced. Human history is also considered Knowledge, although the accepted version varies from culture to culture. Codified in language, this Knowledge has been accumulated in books and other storage devices over the ages.

The definition of Knowledge is In this definition, "developing the Knowledge…of the student" is conceputalized as "giving" them these facts, truths, laws, principles, ideas, and history. This in spite of considerable research suggesting that knowledge is not "out there," but arises in the mind of an individual when that person interacts with the world.

Why I have given some expression about education and knowledge? You already been noticed the headline how a professor victimized and assaulted by the students. He was the principal of the college. Most of our school , college and university going to be losen proper education due to a kind of criminals who are available in campus. Within the student some are actually are not student in the proper sense of the term. Their objective is not to earn knowledge. And some of the teachers also in their back. From my student life I have seen this picture. Where is the root?

Politics is the main root for all the crisis. Our people are divided in various political organizations. This politics also infected in all the organization including institutions. So teachers and students are involved of the respective political parties. When any government is coming in power, the youth league also coming in power. Because political parties are running by the local workers. They are gaining some materialistic benefits from government. As a result student union are earning money and forgetting their education. Recent situation has shown that most of the institutions are involved unfairmeans in admission , in appointment of teachers and workers. The principal itself appointing by the direction of the government. Whether an institution is for building the nation. These are the students are developing without the knowledge, skill, or character. As a result, when they are leaving from the institution and joining any government offices starts make mal practice because they already been builded with the nature. This is the overall situation of the country. For the recent incident is alarming us , our youths directing themselves in devastated way for which needs to have strong control from government as well as family. Otherwise we will face severe social crisis in future.

Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) elements have exposed their rowdy nature by assaulting the newly appointed principal of Barisal BM College Prof Shankar Chandra Dutta some days ago.I condemn in the strongest term such a dastardly attack on the new principal of the college.Photographs of the outrageous incident carried by the national dailies say it all. It is extremely revolting to see how an aged person is running for life with hoodlums in hot pursuit. And one shudders to think of the level of moral degradation those youths, in students' and political activists' garb, have reached so that they think nothing of raising their hand against a teacher. This is beyond all norms of civilised behaviour in a society where a teacher is supposed to be treated with respect.A faction of BCL allegedly loyal to the former principal has been behind the untoward incident. However, the former principal Prof, Nani Gopal Das, refuted such claim as he had already handed over charge to the new principal.

Clearly, the violence was not something that came out of the blue. The factors leading to the day's eruption must have been brewing for some time before it came to a head on the day that new principal was going to take charge. There are already allegations of corruption in various forms including admission business in which some BCL cadres and some other quarters in the college administration had a hand.One wonders how law-enforcers could drop their guard and allow the violence to happen in such a prime educational institution of Barisal. As some reports suggest the new principal sought protection from the administration, but it has not been provided.

We would urge the police to carry out an impartial investigation and find out the culprits responsible for the attack. They must be brought to book and the victim principal provided necessary protection. If government is not funishing the criminals , more and more violence will be increased nation wide. We need to learn from the recent rape cases, when an incident happened in delhi , same thing copied in worldwide. So it is necessary to amend strong rules to safe the victims and punish the criminal.
