For the first time Bangladesh has sought to import natural gas through a pipeline from Tripura to meet the country's mounting demand. Additional gas from Tripura to connect to our eastern gas transmission pipeline to meet the natural gas demand of that region. At least 70 million cubic feet gas per day (mmcfd) of natural gas from Tripura will help meet the natural gas requirement of Bangladesh's eastern region. Both of them witnessed the signing of memorandum of understanding (MoU) between state-run Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC) and India's state-owned Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) on broad aspects of cooperation in downstream oil and gas sector opportunities in Bangladesh. Government has sought Indian cooperation in the form of providing scholarship to Bangladeshi students in Indian institution for study on petroleum and mining engineering.
