BANGLADESH APPAREL EXPORTS TO US

Bangladesh's apparel exports to the US bounced back in the first half of the year thanks to political stability and safety drive, helping the country regain confidence in buyers. Shipment of local garment products to its single largest destination reached US$ 2.68 billion during January to June of 2015, marking a 9.47 per cent growth. Last year, US buyers were in a 'wait-and-watch' situation as they were slightly worried over the confrontational politics and the consecutive industrial incidents like Tazreen blaze and Rana Plaza building collapse in previous years, but the stable political situation and the ongoing safety initiatives helped us regain the confidence in buyers. The US continues to be the single largest export destination for Bangladesh's garment items, accounting for 21.28 percent of the shipments in 2015. Garment exports to the US rose 13 percent year-on-year in 2015. In fact, exploring the non-traditional markets and enhancing exports are strategically important for Bangladesh to ensure sustainable growth of the industry. In 2015, Bangladesh's export receipts stood at $32.39 billion.
