The government has taken initiatives to construct the second Bhairab and Titas railway bridges over Meghna and Titas rivers with the Indian Line of Credit. The railway bridge is heavy compared to the normal bridge, so it requires more time to design. The cost of the project is Tk 5.675 billion for the construction of the second Bhairab Bridge while the construction of the bridge over river Titas will cost Tk 1.926 billion, according to the proposal. The ADB has agreed to provide fund for construction of the double lines railway track on Tongi-Bhairabbazar section. The government is working to upgrade the 320 km Dhaka-Chittagong railway corridor to double lines, of which the work on a 124 km stretch of the railway has been completed. The remaining 196 km construction funds is financed by Japan International Cooperation Agency (Jica) and Asian Development Bank. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has already inaugurated the 64 km Laksam-Chinki Astana double lines project on Dhaka-Chittagong railway corridor, which is also being financed by Jica. The government has also undertaken a project for remodeling the Chittagong Railway Station as the part of developing Bangladesh in future.
